On Saturday, April 14th, Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Church hosted one of the New England Regional Choir Workshops presented by the Sacred Music Council of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America.

Maestro Konstantin Petrossian, Composer, Member of the Sacred Music Council, and Music Director of Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church of Providence, led the extremely informative session with Sacred Music Council Advisor Arpy Kouzouian assisting.  Reverend Father Khachatur Kesablyan, Pastor of Sts. Vartanantz, began the session with a prayer and welcoming remarks, stressing the importance of the work of the Sacred Music Council.   Very Reverend Father Ghevont Samoorian, former pastor of Sts. Vartanantz, and Reverend Father Vart Gyozalian Pastor of Hye Pointe Armenian Church in Haverhill also attended.  In addition to the Choir members from Sts. Vartanantz and Hye Pointe, participation included members from Holy Trinity Armenian Church in Cambridge.

The Choirs sang the music of the Divine Liturgy.  Topics covered included proper breathing in order to hold a longer phrase, dynamics, tempos, and the placement of the voice in pronunciation.

During the lunch break hosted by Sts. Vartanantz, participants agreed the Workshop was proving to be a productive learning experience.  The Music Council is planning another Choir Workshop in the Fall.
